About this activity

The Atlas Mountains 3 Valleys day trip covers three distinct High Atlas valleys in a single full day — departing Marrakech at 8:00 AM, with a certified guide for the Ourika Valley waterfall hike, a traditional Berber lunch served at a private house in Sidi Fares, and return to Marrakech around 5:00–6:00 PM. Available year-round. Pickup is door-to-door from your hotel or riad.

Most visitors see the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop — the snow-capped ridge visible from Djemaa el-Fna on a clear morning. This trip takes you into them. The road climbs out of the Marrakech plain quickly, and within 40 minutes the air changes, the valleys deepen, and the landscape is completely different from anything in the city.

The route crosses three distinct High Atlas valleys: the first through the Atlas foothills with a panoramic viewpoint stop, the second into the Ourika Valley for the waterfall hike with a certified local guide, and the third along a scenic descent through the afternoon light back toward Marrakech. Each valley has its own character — open plateau, river gorge, terraced hillside.

What sets this trip apart from a standard driver excursion is the depth of the experience. A certified guide accompanies the waterfall hike and provides genuine context on the Ourika river system and the landscape around it. The Berber lunch at Sidi Fares is served in a private house — fresh salads, a slow-cooked tagine, bread baked that morning, and Moroccan mint tea. It is not a restaurant set menu. It is the kind of meal that does not appear on travel booking platforms.

This is a fully private trip. Your group only, your vehicle, your guide. You are not joined by strangers. The itinerary is confirmed with you in advance and the pacing throughout the day is entirely at your discretion.

This day trip from €174 per vehicle is the most complete version of the Atlas Mountains experience available near Marrakech — guide, lunch, three valleys, and a genuine sense of the High Atlas rather than a quick stop at a viewpoint and back.

Itinerary

Itenirary
08:00: Pickup in Marrakech

Your driver arrives at your hotel or riad entrance at 8:00 AM. An early departure allows you to reach the first valley before the midday heat builds in summer, and gives the full day the time it deserves. Departure time is confirmed with you the evening before and can be adjusted within reason.

Itenirary
08:45–09:30: First Valley — Atlas Foothills & Panoramic Viewpoint

The road south of Marrakech rises steadily into the High Atlas foothills. The Marrakech plain drops away behind you and the first Atlas ridgelines appear. A panoramic viewpoint stop allows you to take in the scale of the mountains ahead — on clear days, snow-covered peaks are visible from November through April. This is where most travelers understand for the first time how close the genuine High Atlas is to the city.

Itenirary
09:30–12:00: Ourika Valley — Guided Waterfall Hike

The route enters the Ourika Valley, the most visited of the three valleys and the most dramatic. Your certified local guide leads the waterfall hike — a 20–40 minute ascent following the Ourika river upstream through boulders and stepping stones to the waterfall at Setti Fatma. The guide provides context on the river system, the geology of the gorge, and the Amazigh communities of the valley. The first waterfall drops into a natural pool. Flow is strongest in spring (March–May) and after autumn rainfall (October–November).

12:30–14:00: Traditional Berber Lunch at Sidi Fares

Lunch is served at a private Berber house in Sidi Fares — not a restaurant, not a set-up for tourists. Your host family prepares a spread of fresh salads, a slow-cooked tagine, bread made that morning, and Moroccan mint tea. The meal takes place in the home itself, which gives an experience that simply does not exist on any mainstream booking platform. Allow 1–1.5 hours — the pace is relaxed and unhurried.

Itenirary
14:30–16:00: Third Valley — Afternoon Descent & Scenic Return Route

The afternoon route descends through the third valley via a different road — broader, quieter, and notably different in character from the Ourika gorge. The light in the afternoon hours on the Atlas slopes is excellent for photography. The driver stops at natural viewpoints on the descent at your request.

Itenirary
17:00–18:00: Return to Marrakech

Drop-off at your hotel, riad, or any alternative address in Marrakech. Exact return time depends on group pace during the day — typically between 5:00 and 6:00 PM.

Frequently asked questions

The High Atlas foothills begin around 40 km south of Marrakech. On this trip, the furthest point reached is the Ourika Valley near Setti Fatma — approximately 60–65 km from the city, around 60–75 minutes by private vehicle. The road is well-maintained throughout and no mountain pass crossing is required. The altitude reached on the waterfall hike is approximately 1,500 metres.

The price from €174 per vehicle includes: private door-to-door transport for the full day, a certified local guide for the Ourika Valley waterfall hike, a traditional Berber lunch at a private house in Sidi Fares (fresh salads, tagine, bread, mint tea), all three valley stops, all fuel, tolls, and driver fees, bottled water during transfers, and instant booking confirmation. The guide and lunch are not add-ons — they are part of the standard experience on this trip.

Lunch is served at a private Amazigh Berber house in Sidi Fares village, in the High Atlas. Your host prepares a fresh spread of cold salads, a slow-cooked tagine (typically lamb or chicken with vegetables and spices), freshly baked bread, and Moroccan mint tea. It is a home-cooked meal in a family home, not a restaurant or a tourist operation. It is generally one of the highlights travelers mention after the trip. Additional drinks beyond the included tea are available at your own cost.

The hike to the Ourika Valley waterfall is moderate — a 20–40 minute ascent on a path that follows the river through boulders and stepping stones. It involves some uneven ground and a gradual climb but does not require hiking experience. Closed, grippy shoes are essential — not sandals or flat-soled shoes. Your certified local guide sets the pace and assists where needed. The hike is suitable for most adults and children from around age 7–8 in reasonable physical condition.

Yes. The trip works well for families. The three valley drive is scenic and engaging. The waterfall hike is manageable for children from around age 7–8 with proper footwear. The Berber lunch is a memorable experience for children and adults alike. Let us know the ages of children in your group at booking and we can advise on the pace and any adjustments.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best months. Spring brings wildflowers, full waterfalls after snowmelt, green valleys, and comfortable temperatures at altitude. Autumn offers golden light, cooler air, and good waterfall flow after the first rains. Summer (June–August) is very popular — an early 8:00 AM departure is important to beat the heat. Winter (December–February) is explored in more detail in the next question.

Yes — winter is one of the most visually striking times to do this trip. Snow covers the upper Atlas peaks from around November and can persist until March or April, making the panoramic viewpoint stop genuinely dramatic. The Ourika Valley itself stays accessible throughout winter in normal conditions, and the waterfalls run fuller after autumn and winter rainfall. Temperatures at altitude during the hike range from around 4–14°C in December–February, so warm layers, waterproof shoes, and a jacket are essential. The Berber lunch is particularly welcome on a cold mountain day. The route on this trip does not cross any mountain pass, so road closures that occasionally affect Tizi n'Tichka are not a concern here.

Closed walking shoes with grip are essential for the waterfall hike — trainers are fine, hiking boots are better. Bring layers regardless of season: altitude means noticeably cooler temperatures than Marrakech even in summer. A light jacket, sunscreen, and a small daypack are recommended. Lunch is included so you do not need to carry food. Bring a small amount of Moroccan dirhams for any personal purchases. There are no ATMs in the valleys on this route.

This trip is private only. You will never be joined by strangers or combined with another booking. The vehicle, driver, and guide are exclusively for your group. This applies to all Atlas Wings Group tours and transfers — shared or group-join options are not something we offer.

Book via WhatsApp on +212 600 316 681, by email at [email protected], or through the online booking form on MarrakechGo.com. Provide your group size, preferred date, and your pickup address in Marrakech. Instant confirmation is sent by WhatsApp and email. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before departure.

The trip is priced from €174 per vehicle — not per person. A private vehicle covers your full group, so the per-person cost decreases as group size increases. A Comfort Van accommodates up to 7 passengers and is the best value option for families and groups of 4–7 people.
