A hot air balloon ride over Marrakech takes off at sunrise from the Haouz Plain south of the city — the full flight lasts approximately 60 minutes and covers the palmery, Atlas Mountain foothills, and patchwork of Berber villages below. Hotel pickup is included from 04:30 AM, and the experience ends with a traditional breakfast served inside a Berber tent. Available year-round, best September to May.
The light at sunrise over Marrakech is unlike anything you will see from the ground. The city sits at the edge of the Haouz Plain, and from above, the ochre walls of the medina give way to the palmery, the patchwork of Berber farms, and the High Atlas Mountains rising to the south — their peaks catching the first light of the morning while the desert floor is still in shadow. The whole of southern Morocco spreads out below in a way that no other experience can match.
The balloon launches at first light from a point in the Haouz Plain, roughly 20–30 minutes from the city centre. Your Atlas Wings driver collects you from your riad or hotel before dawn — typically between 04:30 and 06:00 AM depending on seasonal sunrise times — and drives you to the launch site where the ground crew are already inflating the envelope. Before takeoff, welcome tea and pastries are served while you watch the balloon take shape.
The flight itself lasts approximately 60 minutes. That matters. Some balloon operators in Marrakech run flights as short as 20 minutes. This is not that. A full sunrise loop over the Haouz gives you time to settle, to actually take in what you are seeing, and to drift — not rush — above the Berber villages and field patterns below. Your pilot is licensed and experienced, and will narrate landmarks and adjust the altitude to give you the best possible views of the Atlas.
After landing, the crew meets the balloon and transports your group to a traditional Berber tent for a full Moroccan breakfast — bread, honey, argan oil, Berber omelette, orange juice, and mint tea. It is a proper meal, not a token gesture. The return drive to your hotel follows, typically arriving back in Marrakech by mid-morning.
This is the right way to start a day in Marrakech, or to mark a special occasion — a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday — with something genuinely remarkable.

Your Atlas Wings driver arrives at your accommodation before dawn. Exact pickup time depends on the date of your flight and the scheduled sunrise — you will receive your confirmed pickup time the evening before. Pickup window is 04:30–06:00 AM depending on the season. The drive to the launch site in the Haouz Plain takes approximately 20–30 minutes. The city is quiet, the air is cool, and the sky begins to change colour as you drive south.
On arrival at the launch site, the ground crew is already preparing the balloon. Welcome Moroccan mint tea and fresh pastries are served while the envelope inflates — a process that takes around 20–30 minutes and is worth watching up close. Your pilot introduces the group, explains safety procedures, and answers questions before boarding.
The balloon lifts off gently from the Haouz Plain as the first light breaks over the Atlas Mountains. The flight covers the palmery, patchwork Berber farmland, and traditional villages of the Marrakech countryside. Your licensed pilot adjusts altitude throughout to give panoramic views of the High Atlas to the south and the city to the north. Flight duration is approximately 60 minutes — a full sunrise loop, not a shortened flight.
After landing, the crew transports the group to a traditional Berber tent set up in the field. Breakfast is a proper Moroccan spread — fresh bread, honey, argan oil, amlou (almond and argan paste), Berber omelette, orange juice, and mint tea. Time to sit, eat, and reflect on what you have just seen. There is no rush at this stage — breakfast is unhurried.
Your Atlas Wings driver returns you to your hotel or riad. Arrival back in Marrakech is typically between 09:00 and 10:00 AM, leaving the rest of the day free — a morning in the city's souks, a riad pool, or an afternoon rest before an evening in Djemaa el-Fna.
The balloon flight lasts approximately 60 minutes from takeoff to landing. This is a full sunrise flight. Some operators in Marrakech offer significantly shorter flights — sometimes as little as 20 minutes — at lower prices. Our flights run the full duration so you have time to genuinely experience the landscape, not simply tick a box. The total experience from hotel pickup to return drop-off is approximately 4–5 hours.
Pickup from your hotel or riad is between 04:30 and 06:00 AM depending on the date and seasonal sunrise time. Balloon flights must launch at or just before sunrise to catch the most stable air conditions and the best light. You will receive your confirmed pickup time the evening before your flight.
The adult price is 119€ per person. Children under 3 years are priced at 59€. Prices include hotel pickup and return, welcome tea and pastries at the launch site, the full 60-minute flight, and a traditional Moroccan breakfast in a Berber tent after landing. There are no hidden extras — what you see is what you pay.
Yes. All balloon flights operate under Moroccan civil aviation authority regulations. Pilots are licensed and experienced. The balloon equipment is maintained to professional safety standards, and the ground crew are trained for all standard and emergency procedures. Weather conditions are assessed on the morning of each flight — if conditions are not safe, the flight is postponed and your deposit fully refunded.
In the rare event that weather conditions prevent a safe launch, or if tickets become unavailable, your reservation will be cancelled and your deposit fully refunded. You will be notified as early as possible on the morning of your flight. Most flights operate as scheduled — the Marrakech weather window in peak season is very reliable — but we recommend building some flexibility into your itinerary if the balloon is a priority.
Children are generally welcome from approximately age 6. Children under 3 years are eligible for the reduced child rate of 59€. The balloon basket is enclosed and the flight is smooth — not turbulent in the way a small aircraft can be. Children typically find the experience exciting rather than frightening. Please advise us of children's ages at booking so we can confirm suitability and assign the right basket position.
Yes — early mornings in the Haouz Plain are significantly cooler than the city, particularly from October through March. With pickups starting as early as 04:30 AM, temperatures before dawn can be genuinely cold in winter months. Bring a light jacket or fleece layer regardless of season. The basket offers no shelter from the breeze at altitude. In summer months the early morning temperature is more comfortable, but a light layer is still recommended for the pre-dawn drive and the wait before launch.
It is one of the most popular experiences we arrange for couples in Marrakech. Floating above the palmery and Atlas Mountains at sunrise, followed by breakfast in a Berber tent, is a genuinely special way to mark an occasion. If you are celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary, let us know at booking and we will inform the team — small touches are possible on request.
Summer flights (June–August) operate but conditions are worth understanding before you book. The Haouz Plain heats up rapidly after sunrise in summer, which means the flight window is short and launch times are very early — pickups can begin as early as 04:30 AM. The views are clear and the Atlas Mountains are dramatic in summer light. Winter and spring (October to April) offer cooler, more comfortable conditions and the possibility of snow on the Atlas peaks as a backdrop. All seasons are flyable — September to May is simply the most comfortable period overall.
